High School Sweetheart by Fig Farms
Today I am reviewing High School Sweetheart by Fig Farms. Fig Farms is a farmer-owned Oakland based Cannabis Company. Fig Farms truly goes in a unique direction with their strains trying to create something new, notable, and unique to pique Connoisseurs’ interest like myself. They put in a lot of work breeding and cultivating most of their strains in house with an extremely high-quality control level.Â
Genetics
High School Sweetheart by Fig Farms is the cross of Cherry Pie with Grateful Breath. Grateful Breath has an interesting lineage as it is the cross of Joesph OG and OG Kush Breath, not having anything to do with Mendo Breath or PB Breath, as the name would lead you to believe. As I mentioned earlier, Cherry Pie is the cross of GDP and Durban Poison. These genetics set the stage for an offering very different than the Runtz or Mintz of today, but instead a throwback to a more classic strain grown to be more Zaza than it ever could.
Appearance
The perfectly manicured buds are a great example of what the end product of top-shelf cannabis should look like. The flowering tops are a gorgeous mix of white, orange, purple, and light green hues from the coat of resinous trichome crystals, the long orange hairs, and the purple and pale green leaves.
Aroma
I love how different smells, sounds, and sensory experiences can trigger memories that bring you back to a moment in time, reminding you of the emotions, feelings, and ideas you had at that time. Smelling High School Sweetheart, I had one of those experiences.
The aroma of Fig Farms’ High School Sweetheart brought me back to the Green Door in San Francisco. Before recreational, The Green Door was one of my favorite spots. They would sell ounces of quality Girl Scout Cookies, Plantium Girl Scout Cookies, and Cherry Pie for $360 with no tax.
The aroma of High School Sweetheart is almost identical to that of The Green Doors Cherry Pie. Granted, Fig Farms has done a ten times better job of taking this strain of Zaza over the top. I would describe High School Sweetheart’s aroma as a mix of cherry, earthy, and floral notes. But wait, there’s more. If you break open a bud, you are greeted with sour, gassy notes, evidence of those OG genetics hiding deep within.
The Inhale and The Exhale
With such strong sour, gassy notes when breaking open a bud, I expected the OG Kush lineage to make a more prominent appearance. However, I found the OG Kush presence in the flavor profile to be much more subdued, allowing me to have a reunion with my High School Sweetheart, Cherry Pie.
From what I recall, Cherry Pie’s inhale and exhale are very similar to that of High School Sweetheart’s. Cherry Pie always had some sour notes that the OG Kush Breath had only accented in this cross, but Cherry Pie is clearly coming out the dominant strain here. I would describe the inhale as a cherry dominant fruit-forward flavor profile complemented by delicate sour and earthy notes. In contrast, the exhale becomes strangely, pleasantly, very smooth, with cherry fruit notes and lite earthy notes being more dominant.
The Smoking Experience
It was such a trip to romance the stone and to be taken back to a time that I thought was long forgotten. I really enjoyed the cherry flavor profile and found it to be much more forward than other cherry strains of today, such as Cherry Fritter or Cherry GMO. As with all of Fig Farm’s strains, I found High School Sweetheart to be a gratifying, delightful smoking experience. The clean green flowers burned to a clean white ash, and the profoundly smooth exhale genuinely stands out.
The High
I found the high to be a clean head high as well as energizing. I think the high is perfect for a gym trip, cleaning the house, or defeating anxiety. While this is a top of the top shelf strain, this is still a strain that would be good for all smokers regardless of their experience level. Not to mention you can taste and experience a bit of history.
So was High School Sweetheart worth the money and would I buy it again?
Yes and Yes. I have never been disappointed with Fig Farms. Even though I have only done two reviews, I have enjoyed countless boxes and strongly recommend you do too. Not to mention anyone who can build a time machine and take me back in time is good in my book. #figfarms #timetravelingweedmachine
Where can High School Sweetheart by Fig Farms be found?
Fig Farms is a California based company. Currently, their flowers are available all over California. They are sold everywhere in the Bay Area. I would recommend picking them up in the Bay at The Barbary Coast, Sparc, Cannabis Buyers Club of Berkley, or Harborside. In SoCal, I would recommend checking out Greenwolf or Jungle Boys OC.
