Northern Lights Haze
Next up for review is an extraordinarily special strain that is impossible to find, Northern Lights Haze by Mount Burnin. The other day I was lucky enough to meet the elusive Mount Burnin, #brucewaynevibes.
He is incredibly cool and very down-to-earth. His passion for cannabis is apparent the first second you sit down. You can easily see his knowledge and expertise around the plant through a brief conversation.
As Master Technician with eight grow tents in a two-bedroom apartment in San Francisco, he left a very lucrative career to pursue a passion of cannabis.
Not too many years, an endearing lovable chicken named silky, and a couple of farms later, MB is a dominating force in the Cannabis industry in both the white and black markets with a significant Instagram presence.
I am very lucky; he gifted me a few very special, very rare strains grown by the man himself. One of the strains he gave me was Sour Diesel, which I smoked up immediately. In addition, he also gifted me some Northern Lights Haze and an amazing cut of OG Kush.
Genetics
There are a few different Northern Lights Hazes, such as #1, #2, and #5, with #5 being a more recent cross. This strain, I believe to be one of the original cuts. This Sativa dominant hybrid is the cross of Northern Lights and Silver Haze.
If you go back far enough on this blog, you can find me describing Oaksterdam and the early days of 215. This bag is the flowers of that time; smoking the strain was like jumping into a time machine.
Appearance
The well-manicured flowers are light green with long stringy orange hairs giving the colas a defining Sativa look. A light brushing of trichome crystals offers the flowers a whitish tone.
Aroma
The scent immediately takes me back to the original strains before exotics. I would describe the nose as a mix of sweet fruity herbal notes leaning in the direction of fresh blueberries. I have often seen Haze add both blueberry and bubble gum characteristics back in the day.
The Inhale & The Exhale
The inhale of these flowers bursts with blueberry notes that evolve in a complex sweet fruit punch profile. In contrast, the exhale evolves again into thin herbal notes complemented by delicate linger wood notes.
The Smoking Experience
The smoking experience is exactly as I remembered it. It is very impressive how true to form this flower is to the original I smoked eighteen years ago. I am really enjoying the great flavor on the inhale and the interesting thinner smoke on the exhale.
The High
Supa-Dupa high. You might look at these flowers and say that they don’t look too potent; however, today’s popular strains have a much more refined clean high. The old school strains packed a significant punch, such as this strain with a hefty body and cerebral head high that will wreck your ass.
So was Northern Lights Haze worth the money, and would I repurchase it?
Yes and Yes. I was lucky enough to have this gifted, but I would buy it all day. It is so cool to see these historic strains being resurrected and such a trip down memory lane to try them.
Where can you find Northern Lights Haze by Mount Burnin?
I believe these old-school throwback strains are either head stash or very limited release. If you get a chance to try any of these Mount Burnin Old School Strains, jump on it!
