Polvoron Tradicional Strain

I am very excited to be reviewing Polvoron Tradicional by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points. I have wanted to try as well as review some of these more obscure Backpack Boyz strains for quite some time. As seen in the video and pictures, the Polvoron Tradicional comes in a more street-oriented mylar bag but still includes the tamper-evident sticker we find on the dispensary bought Backpack Boyz and 5 Points flowers.

The actual La Estepena Polvoron Tradicional is a popular dessert cookie from Spain. The bakers use finely ground almonds to make the crumbly, soft cookies. The mylar bag is a play on the desserts’ packaging, a marketing technic I discussed lately on a recent Dubz Garden review. Also worth noting in addition to what appears to be the cookies, we also see some lemons and cherries, most likely indicating a lemon cherry gelato cross.

Genetics

Now there is not too much out there about this strain. As of now, the genetics are unknown to me. I am a big lemon cherry gelato fan, but I am not finding its presence in the nose and as the label implied. I could be wrong, or it might be the less dominant strain in the cross.

Appearance

Polvoron Tradicional by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points, for the most part, is a light green hue with long orange hairs and short white hairs, and resinous trichomes. There are purple, and dark green highlights found scattered about the colas. The buds in my bag were on the smaller side but still came out well in the photos and videos.

Aroma

It is the first whiff of the aroma when you realize this strain is very unique. The scent is a very familiar yet also a very unfamiliar smell. Nutty almond notes dominate the nose, complemented by a delicate familiar musky gelato nose. You can find skunky gassy undertones when breaking open buds.

The Inhale and The Exhale

The inhale is a subdued lemon cherry gelato topped with nutty almond notes. The exhale takes a pure nutty almond direction, with smooth nutty almond notes dominating the flavor profile. This is by far one of the more unique and interesting flavor profiles I have had all of 2020.

The Smoking Experience

The unique almond flavor profile combined with the smooth inhale and exhale leads to a Top Shelf Zaza smoking experience. Furthermore, I am completely blown away that this strain is a cross from a gelato cut. We are incredibly fortunate to be partaking in the fruits of the cannabis industry at this moment in time when we get to see such dynamically changing flavors from strain to strain.

The High

The high begins as a happy uplifting but soon creeps into a full-blown checked out stoney; what the fuck was I doing high. This high is perfect for getting lost in telling stories with friends, being way too stoned, and letting loose ending the year with a bang during a pandemic.

So was Polvoron Tradicional worth the money and would I buy it again?

Yes, and yes. This is a very unique, rare offering that took me quite some time to track down. I have seen the more popular mass-produced Backpack Boyz and 5 Pointz strains making their way to the dispensary while strains like Polvoron Tradicional tend to be more small-batch found on the street.

Where can you find Polvoron Tradicional?

It can be very challenging to find these small-batch flavors and grows. You can only hope that the excellent strains will be grown on a larger scale, allowing more people to try them. While also maintaining quality without substituting for quantity.
