The Black Matcha Mochi Strain
I wrote a review of the first batch of Black Matcha Mochi that dropped not too far back. While at the dispensary, one of my favorite budtenders dropped some knowledge. They mentioned that the most recent drop of the strain was even more fire, leaning more towards the Obama Runtz in the genetic linage.
Genetics
Obama Runtz and Mochi Gelato make up the genetics of this unique strain. The last batch was a little more subdued, leading toward a more dominant green tea and nut profile. This time things are much more dynamic with even more tropical terps.
Appearance
A mix of deep dark greens, purples, and lighter green hues make up the color palette of this gorgeous bud. The long orange hairs complement the dynamic colors. In my bag were three lag fluffy buds, a perfect cure, and density.
Aroma
The aroma is complex and evolved from the first batch. I am still finding the green tea and nut nose, but in addition i am also finding a sweet candy, sprite soda nose. A very different sophisticated aroma, like Gary Payton all grown up.
The Inhale & The Exhale
Sweet, creamy fruit notes dominate the inhale while you still see some of the delicate green tea and nut notes deeper within the flavor profile. You find an intricate combination of the sweet tropical notes with the green tea and nut notes in the exhale.
The Smoking Experience
With the evolved flavor profile the smoking experience has gotten only better. . I find the smoke really smooth with one of the most unique flavor profiles I have seen in all of 2021. Again I am finding the flavors feel very rich yet soft and not too overpowering.
The High
I found the high to be very similar to the last batch and my happy place. A perfect headspace complemented with a good body high. Perfect for walks on the beach, yoga, and bike rides. From a medicinal perspective, it would be suitable for treating stress and anxiety.
So was Black Matcha Mochi worth the money, and would I repurchase it?
Yes and yes. With such an interesting core flavor profile that is evolving, it reminds me of one of my favorite bourbons, Rhetoric by Orphan Barrel. Most bourbons are aged to a certain year and bottled however with Rhetoric they bottled a tiny bit each year and continued to age other barrels, allowing the consumer to watch and taste the evolution first hand.
