Growing up in the Bay Area, you have to appreciate the innovators and risk-takers. From Apple to Google to HP, the story of a couple of guys starting a world-wide successful business in a garage is shared globally.
The company whose flowers I will be reviewing today started in very much the same way. Where the Colorado River meets Route 66 along the California and Arizona border, a couple of guys started Mohave Reserve in a garage very much similar to the silicon valley pioneers.
Mohave Reserve is an award-winning cannabis company. They have grown to close to 150 employees with multiple locations, managing more than 1,200 lights and harvesting over 50,000 pounds of cured flower.
The strain I will be reviewing today by Mohave Reserve is Kushstock Cake. I am not able to find too much about the strain. Kushstock Cake appears to be proprietary to them or is a rebranded strain.
If I had to guess, I would put my money on this strain being Kush Cake rebranded to promote the Marijuana Festival Kushstock, but I could totally be wrong. Allow me to give you a little background on my guess, Kush Cake. Kush Cake is the cross of Kush Mints and Wedding Cake by Seed Junky Genetics.
The colas have an epic appearance with a mix of bright light green and deep dark purple hues. There are short tight orange hairs scattered about and even shorter tiny white hairs all over the flowers. Also tons of perfectly formed trichrome crystals which at times look so dense they appear on top of each other.
Kushstock Cake has some of the expected aromas from its genetic lineage while also having some surprises in store. I found the nose to have very forward herbal butterscotch scent complemented by very delicate notes of vanilla and burnt almond.
I found the inhale to continue the theme with its butterscotch forward flavor profile. I tasted a lot of sweet buttery brown sugar notes complemented again by very delicate vanilla and burnt almond notes.
Next, I saw the exhale take a bit of a different direction. The sweet butterscotch palette quickly turned to a earthy herbal flavor profile with a lingering vanilla after taste.
The smoking experience was very enjoyable for me. I found the flower burned clean and smoked smooth with slight expansion. Now, this is where things took a turn.
Kush Mint crosses when in the right hands can be deadly. If the grower knows what they are doing they can cultivate some seriously strong cannabis. Mohave Reserve did just that with their 34% THC Kushstock Cake.
Now I am all on board with FearTheTerps’ recent campaign “It’s not all about THC”. In fact, I wrote a whole post about it a while back and never posted it. However, I do think it is one characteristic and indicator that can help you understand what you are about to get into.
I had no idea what I was going to get into with Kushstock Cake. The high is head changing, like only smoke after midnight on that gremlins tip. Not long after smoking it, I noticed my head was detached from my body and floating around the room. No seriously this hybrid packs a punch perfect for Anxiety, Insomnia, and taking naps.
So was it worth the money and would I buy it again? Yes and yes. This was my first time trying Mohave Reserve and I was impressed. The flowers were clean with a unique flavor profile and packs a serious punch.
Where can it be found? Mohave Reserve can be found in dispensaries in both California and Arizona.
